In 1997 Boston Scientific announced the creation of an international manufacturing facility in Cork, on a unique 30 acre site, close to the city centre, in the Cork Business and Technology Park. In early 1999 the building of a 175,000 sq. ft. facility was completed which would add to a pre-existing 25,000 sq. ft. manufacturing unit and a 19th century period house. Boston Scientific Cork has approximately 600 employees.

The Cork facility currently manufactures and develops neuro-radiological coils and catheters for the treatment of aneurysms. Our products offer an alternative to the traditional surgical treatment by inserting a catheter into the vascular system and guiding it using imaging technology to the brain aneurysm. A coil is deployed into the aneurysm and due to its material composition the coil is able to conform to the often irregular shape of aneurysms. The coil is detached from its delivery mechanism and remains in the aneurysm to promote blood clotting, thus preventing continuing blood supply to the aneurysm. We also manufacture a cardio-vascular product, Rotablator, which treats atherosclerosis by removing plaque from narrow or blocked arteries. The Cork facility continues to grow and develop its product range with some exciting projects coming on line in the future.

Boston Scientific Cork is a strong contributor to the local Community, particularly in health related area's.
